SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an email safety system, which is employed to confirm whether an e-mail message is sent by a licensed server. Using SPF protection for a domain name will prevent the counterfeiting of email addresses created with the domain. In layman's terms: activating this feature for a domain makes a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP of the servers which are allowed to send emails from mail boxes under the domain. The moment this record propagates globally, it will exist on all the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. When a new email message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through verifies if it comes from an approved server. When it does, it's forwarded to the destination address, however when it doesn't come from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it is rejected. Thus nobody will be able to mask an e-mail address then make it appear as if you're distributing spam messages. This technique is also identified as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Website Hosting

SPF protection can be activated for every domain hosted in a shared website hosting account on our cloud platform with just a couple of mouse-clicks. The function is available in the Emails section of our state-of-the-art Hepsia Control Panel and all it takes to activate it is to select one of your domains from the drop-down menu and then type in the hostnames plus the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses of the e-mail servers which will be approved to send emails from your email addresses. As an added option you may also restrict the messages to be sent from your domain only if it has our MX records, i.e. if our servers handle the e-mail addresses for it, not some third-party supplier. This is done through the Emails section of our Hepsia Control Panel that is included with the semi-dedicated accounts and even if you have no previous practical experience with such issues, you will not have any kind of problems to enable the protection. All that you'll have to do will be to choose a domain from a drop-down list then type the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. The moment the new record propagates, messages from your emails will be sent worldwide only if they were sent from that server. In case your emails are taken care of by our company and not by some third-party provider, you can also benefit from an option for e-mail messages to be sent only when the domain includes our MX records and the latter would be the safest option.
